Fun Halloween

We had a very fun Halloween almost a week ago. We drove up to my inlaws who live an hour and a half away, and went trick-or-treating around their block. I really thought Malachi, who will be 4 at the end of the month, would really like it, but surprisingly, he was kind of done after about four houses. Our 1.5 year old on the other hand, who is normally quite shy, loved it. He would not let me touch his pumpkin that he was carrying around his goodies with. He figured out what to do really Quick. He would go to the door, put down his pumpkin and glow stick to knock on the door and then dive into the bowl of candy, and then the husband would say, ‘oh my goodness he is cute, dear come look at this’. and then the wife would come and say, he is so cute, he needs more. Gabriel LOVED all the decorations, esspecially the fog machine and huge blow up pumpkin, but really, who doesn’t?

Getting my groove back!

After taking an unplanned break to get caught up on customs and sewing for my children I am getting back in the groove of stocking!! I’ve been told I only post pictures of my sewing room when its clean… so to prove I DO make a mess… This is what my sewing room looks like after sewing 17 pairs of pj’s 10 diapers and 3 covers….

Woohoo this blog will actually be on time! Actually a bit early!

I took Hayden (2½ months) for his 2m Dr appt last week and asked the Dr for some reflux medicine. I should have started it right away but I wanted to make sure he had reflux before starting meds. My others had it so I was sure he did too but I didnt want to jump the gun! We started the Medicine on Tuesday, by Wednesday I could already see a slight improvement! I’ve seen improvement each day since too!! He’s doing GREAT now! He acts like a normal baby now without the screaming ALL DAY LONG!! YAY

Its a bit weird having all this time (like a whole hour or two!! lol). I feel like a new woman! I actually have time to sew now.

Better Late than never?

One of these days I’ll actually blog on Monday instead of a few days later when I remember!

I guess I’ll blog about Hayden today since that’s usually what’s on my mind 99% of the time! He is such a fussy baby! He had his 2m appt today and the nurse just couldnt believe I held him all day long, when she asked how often he ate I told her “I nurse him, put him down for 10 mins and he’s crying again so I pick him up and repeat… ALL…DAY… LONG!” She said “How do you get anything done?!” I said “I made a sling!” lol So Hayden is my little sling baby!

Being #5, I’ve finally figured slings out, they were sent from Heaven I’m pretty sure, but I’m wondering why I didnt start with my first? Hindsight is 20/20! Just glad I’ve figured them out now and can do things while wearing him. I just wish he wouldnt grow up so fast! He’s already 2.5m old!!

He’s in that stage right now though where he smiles any time you look at him! It just makes my heart melt when he gives me that big ole grin! *swoon* SO precious! Aww just makes me want to wake him up to see it again! So I guess I better get to bed, its late and morning comes early here!

Mermaids

I love them. It’s no wonder my children love them as well. So, when Heather Ross, one of my favorite fabric designers, came out with a mermaid/octi line, I couldn’t help but make myself something.

I haven’t sewn for myself in a very long time and boy did it feel good to create something specifically for me. It will probably be awhile before I get the opportunity again.

I missed blogging the past 2 Sundays. I guess the weekends get away from me or something. So, enjoy your Monday and smile. It confuses an approaching frown.

Volunteer Work

DH and I (and the kiddos) have been volunteering at a privately owned foster home for 4yrs now. They are a huge part of our family and often times we just go out there to visit. The ranch (as we usually call it) is a home for teenage boys and abused animals. It is so peaceful out there but its an hour away and with gas prices, we havent been able to head out there that much.

Hurricane Ike just hit a little over a month ago, the ranch lost all of their frozen foods and as you can imagine feeding 7 teenage boys, that was a LOT of food so they were pretty desperate in needing to refill their freezers! The American Red Cross and North Carolina Baptist Men are in my town handing out hotmeals, so I decided to ask them if they might possibly have anything that could be donated to the ranch! They did! They are still cooking and often times they make too much, they give me a call and I go get it for the ranch. I’ve made 3 trips out to the ranch from these donations and their freezers are getting refilled now!! They have a lot more than they started out with so they are so thankful for all of the donations!

Life in Mimzie Land

Life here has been pretty hectic. Hayden was born, … screaming.. in early August and hasnt stopped since lol Then the hurricane came through just to cause more chaos (as if we didnt have enough!) but things are beginning to settle once again!

Hayden is such a joy, even though he doesnt like being put down anywhere, he’s such a joy to be around. Even though he’s #5, I still stare at him as I did my 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. There’s just something about a sweet innocent baby that can capture your heart isnt there? Today I showed him that cute baby in the mirror and he just had a huge ole grin on his face like he’d seen the cutest baby ever (of course he did right? lol) Then his eyes fixed on me in the mirror and there goes that adorable grin again like “WOW!! There’s mom!” So sweet! Parenting definitely has its ups and downs but when a cute lil baby looks up at you and just smiles, it just makes you realize its all worth it!

I went through all the baby clothes tonight, it was so bitter sweet. I found each of my boys coming home outfits which was wonderful!! When I was pregnant with Hayden, I wanted him to wear the same outfit as my younger 2 boys but I couldnt find it. I thought it was lost! It wasnt, my sister had it and didnt realize it (She had her son after I had my 4th which we thought we were done at that point *DH thought he was done, I knew I wasnt ) I’m glad I found them! Just picking through the memories was so sweet though.

Sunday afternoon with Cynthia

On my mind for this afternoon is my daughter. My youngest daughter. My baby, Ashlin. She turns six years old this upcoming Thursday. My wee one is entering a whole different time in ~~her~~ our lives. We have no huge plans. No big extravagant parties planned. Just a few friends over for some play time and cake and ice cream.

My last blog entry spoke of my father and how we lacked the closeness that most parent and child share. With those thoughts floating around in my head on a constant basis, I can’t help but feel like I need to go beyond the norm to make sure that we share what my father and I lack(ed). Hugs and kisses galore, quality time, and attention are given in large amounts. I am well on my way in breaking that vicious cycle of divorce and emotional wreckage.

So, here’s to family!

Oh, and special projects!
Here is a Christmas present I made for a friend of mine.
I will be knitting her a scarf to match.

I missed Monday again!

I missed my blogging day again! It’s funny that I do that, since I have it written in big block letters right on my calendar. Oh well.

I’m sure many of you can relate, it’s challenging to stay on top of things with little ones running around. We spent last week soaking up the final rays of summer sunshine. The air is crisper this week, leaves are falling, and it’s time to clear out our gardens. We’re in the process of switching out shorts and t-shirts for pants and sweaters, so I’ve been doing a little sewing for our family. There are a few things in the works for TurtleTime Designs as well, but sometimes you have to put family needs first.

Good news though! My broken serger is back and as good as new. I really missed that thing for the week it was gone. It’s pretty funny that I waffled so much about buying it in the first place (I’m sure some of my congomates remember that), and now I use it all the time.

Anyway, the day is swiftly passing me by. I hope you enjoyed our month of blogging, and I know I hope to blog more often. Thanks for reading!
