That is what I am filled with when I look at this photo. My second son, Reid, was born this spring and his birth was a powerful healing experience for me. This photo was taken on his first morning in this world when it was just the two of us in the room, my husband out to grab a coffee, my newborn still sleeping in a warm, swaddled heap on my chest and me making liberal use of my camera’s self-timer. I couldn’t help myself; I wanted so badly to remember the softness and contentment I felt there with him, smelling his soft hair and feeling so at peace with his birth the day before. Both of my sons were born by necessary cesarean sections, and though I was unprepared for the surgery and NICU stay of my first son, Rylan, who was born premature, I wanted so deeply for things to be different this time. I spent much time and energy during my pregnancy coming to peace with the fact that I would never be able to birth naturally (my first pregnancy discovered a rare condition of my uterus) and trying to think of all the ways I could have a cesarean birth that was filled with everything that was important to me. I wanted the same powerful, loving, bonding, nurturing birth that I wished I could have if this surgery wasn’t the only way. And Reid’s birth was amazing! The room was filled with laughter and talking and good energy and music, lots of great music! He was born to Bob Marley’s ‘Three Little Birds’ and it makes me smile still to know that he was born hearing the words ‘don’t worry about a thing, because every little thing’s gonna be alright’. It spoke as much to me as to him and I remember putting him to my breast only a few minutes after he was born, thinking how the wounds of my first son’s birth were healed, that we had done it, that that empty place in my heart that had always felt like ‘real’ birth was stolen from me was filled. In this photo I remember so clearly that feeling; it makes me sigh and smile every time I look at it.

Hi! I’m Sheri, the mama behind Turtletime Designs.

See, there’s my logo!
Anyway, a challenge was given to post a picture and then write about it. I don’t often turn down a challenge, so here I am! My picture was taken by my husband, Eric, while we were on vacation in southern Wisconsin a couple weeks ago. That day we had gone to visit a deer park in Wisconsin Dells, and on the way home stopped for ice cream. Right across from the ice cream shop was this beautiful little waterfall park. My babes, Reese (3.5) and Eli (2) loved seeing the waterfalls. I always enjoy a peaceful place where my family can be together.
My family is important to me, they are my inspiration. When I work on items for my shop, I think about things that would make Reese and Eli laugh, things that would be comfortable for them to wear, things that would be fun for them to use. I think about things that make life nice even when they are simple. Our family vacation wasn’t fancy but it sure was fun! It was a chance for us to follow our whims, and that’s something I strive to bring to TurtleTime Designs.
Thanks for reading, and hopefully I’ll get into the blogging swing of things for the month of September!

With fall around the corner and our thoughts turning to freshly sharpened pencils and crisp new notebook pages, the mamas at Inspired have dreamed up a little homework project all our own. For the 30 days of September we will be writing 30 randomly inspired blog entries, a different artisan for each day of the week. Please join us as we fill our blog with snippets of our daily life and get ourselves into the habit of blogging more often. We hope you enjoy reading our daily assignments as much as we hope to enjoy writing them - after all, everyone enjoys a little Show and Tell!

Well, I have! I’ve gained two new crochet soaker patterns (one from our very own Carisa, the new Oddesy Soaker at Elysium, and the other is the Adirondack Babie soaker pattern from Crazy Hat Lady)…I can’t wait to test out these patterns. Nita from Hot Salad and Angel from Cotton Candy are my first victims first in line for customs
I’ve also aquired the Scattered Mama hat pattern from Crazy Hat Lady, so be prepaired to see some of those this fall.
My daughter Maura is going to speech therapy all summer, and you know what that means? It means I’ll have two hours every week to do nothing but little yarn projects. I’m finding joy in knitting up washclothes, after getting my mother-in-law to show me how, and you will be seeing those very soon! Knitted washclothes are amazing! They have a natural scrubbing ability. Seriously, when my mother-in-law handed me the first one, I thought she was nuts. Then I used it and was in love! I also love them for polishing wood furniture - since they’re cotton, they’re soft and won’t scratch the wood.

Summer is here, and I’m trying out some new creative items to add to the store. I”ll be coming out soon with original hair accessories for women and girls. Later this summer, I will also be trying out some new patterns for young girls like ruffled pants and sweet dresses with matching aprons. I also have been working on outfits for toddler boys.
So keep an eye out for some new and different things soon at Night Owl’s Menagerie.

The sun is hot, the pool is open, and I’m ready for something new for summer. I’ve been working hard to add hand dyed spinning fibers and some handspun yarn, just in time for summer fun. Maybe I’ll even knit something for you or your little one!
